Jugoshin Ryu Jujutsu
Our mission is to perpetuate the warrior art of Jugoshin Ryu Jujutsu, specifically the martial arts passed down from antiquity through the Samurai of Japan. While we embrace the many positive aspects that can be derived through the practice of martial arts, our supreme endeavor is that of perfect self-defense; invincibility.
Jugoshin Ryu Jujutsu: Bridging the gap between ancient and modern martial arts.
Jugoshin Ryu Jujutsu: Bridging the gap between ancient and modern martial arts.
Jugoshin Ryu Jujutsu is passionate about the traditional fighting arts but prefer functionality over empty ritual. We have fused the old and the new, both traditional martial arts and modern martial arts in our system. This gives us the best of both worlds. We appreciate both schools of martial arts, the traditional, for the respect and values, and the modern style for the realistic approach to training. Traditionally martial arts were used in war and for defense when they were originated. That is why they are called "martial" which means war like. Yet, with time, they have become a sport with rules that are unrealistic for combat and in general do not work in the street. The modern system of Jugoshin Ryu Jujutsu is more realistic. It is as real as it gets and can be used in the streets for self defense. This concept is not new, the Samurai of Japan believed in mixed martial arts. They crossed trained and were well versed in all aspects of fighting. Jugoshin Ryu Jujutsu looks to bring back the spirit of the Samurai while continuously evolving with the times.
We believe in Bruce Lee’s philosophy of using what works and discarding what is useless.
"Seek not to blindly follow in the footsteps of the men of old but rather continue to seek
out what they sought" - Matsuo Basho
"Tradition doesn't mean preserving someones ashes in a box but rather
keeping its flame alight"
- Jean Janses

The most important function for martial arts is surviving and winning in real combat. All the other physical, psychological and sporting benefits of training are included and refined on that path!
“If you are following the true Way of the Warrior and diverge a little, this will
later become a large divergence.”
- Miyamoto Musashi
"You must remember that physical training is just the gateway to mastery of the mind. That's why you must strive to achieve true humility through training. If you don't, it's difficult if not impossible to rise above the purely physical because your mind is forever clouded by thoughts of material things, pride and scorn for others, and similar negative feelings."
